The Primal Performance Series Plate Loaded Low Row is a unilateral, chest supported row built to isolate the lats, with independent lever arms that follow a diverging path. It takes up to 320 kg of Olympic plates, is rated to a 300 kg maximum user weight and 620 kg total load, and suits high traffic commercial gyms and PT studios. It sits on a 1700 × 1470 mm footprint and is 1460 mm tall.
Because each arm moves on its own, a stronger side cannot carry a weaker one. Members can row both arms together or one at a time, which makes it a practical tool for evening out left to right strength differences.
Who it is for
- High traffic commercial gyms that need a durable plate loaded back machine
- PT studios working on posture and single side imbalances with clients
- Performance centres programming unilateral pulling for athletes
- Hypertrophy focused members who want lat isolation with less biceps involvement
Key features
- Independent lever arms for single arm or two arm rowing
- Diverging motion path that follows the natural line of the shoulder joint for a strong lat contraction
- Multi grip handles so users can change hand position and emphasis
- Adjustable chest pad to fit a wide range of body sizes
- Angled bullhorns load up to 320 kg of Olympic plates
- 300 kg maximum user weight and 620 kg total load capacity
- Heavy duty 3 mm steel frame with a matte black finish
What the low row trains
The low row pulls from in front and slightly below, with the chest braced on a pad. That position keeps the focus on the lats and limits how much the arms and lower back can take over.
- Primary: latissimus dorsi
- Secondary: rhomboids, middle trapezius and rear deltoids, with limited biceps involvement
- Single arm sets to find and correct side to side imbalances
- Heavy lat focused rowing without lower back fatigue
- Grip changes across a program to shift emphasis between the lats and upper back

Frequently asked questions
How big is the Plate Loaded Low Row?
It is 1700 mm long, 1470 mm wide and 1460 mm high. With roughly 600 mm of clearance on each side for plate loading and access, you need a zone of about 2.9 × 2.7 m.
How much weight can it hold?
The angled bullhorns take up to 320 kg of 50 mm Olympic plates, and the machine is rated to 620 kg in total including a user of up to 300 kg. Plates are not included.
Does it need a high ceiling?
No. It stands 1460 mm tall and the pull is horizontal, so any standard 2.4 m ceiling works.
How is this different from the Rotating Smith Back Row?
The Low Row has two independent arms on a diverging path and focuses on the lats. The Rotating Smith Back Row uses a single guided bar and can switch between a Smith row and an incline chest supported row. Many gyms run both.
What warranty does Primal provide?
Primal Strength covers it for full commercial use: 5 years on the frame, 3 years on parts (labour not included), and 1 year on pads and wearables.
Can it be delivered and installed anywhere in Australia?
We ship Australia-wide from our Melbourne warehouse, with most metro deliveries arriving 1 to 7 business days after dispatch. The packed machine weighs 299 kg, so some regional addresses need a freight quote. Use the Ask about this machine form on this page for a delivery and installation quote.
